Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 July 2026
ILED E-Science ("we", "us", or "our") operates the website at iledescience.org. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it.
1. What data we collect
We collect the minimum necessary to understand how the site is used and to respond to reader enquiries:
- Analytics data. We use privacy-friendly, cookieless web analytics to count page views, referrer sources, and approximate geographic region (country level only). No personal identifiers, device fingerprints, or cross-site tracking cookies are set. Raw IP addresses are not stored.
- Contact and enquiry data. If you email us directly, we retain your email address and message content only for as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider automatically records standard HTTP request logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp). These logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and availability monitoring, then deleted.
2. What we do not collect
- We do not use advertising networks or place third-party tracking cookies.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
- We do not require you to create an account or submit personal information to read any content on the site.
3. Legal basis for processing
Where applicable under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, our legal bases are:
- Legitimate interests — analytics and server logs, to maintain and improve the site.
- Contract — processing email correspondence necessary to respond to your enquiry.
4. Data retention
- Aggregated analytics data: retained indefinitely in aggregate, anonymised form.
- Server logs: up to 30 days, then deleted.
- Email correspondence: retained for 12 months after the enquiry is resolved, then deleted.
5. Third-party processors
We use the following processors to operate the site:
- Hosting provider — provides servers and CDN infrastructure. They process standard HTTP request logs as described above.
- Analytics provider — provides aggregated, cookieless traffic statistics. No personally identifiable data is shared.
All processors are bound by data processing agreements and are prohibited from using data for their own commercial purposes.
6. Cookies
We do not set any cookies for advertising or tracking. Our analytics solution is cookieless. We may set a strictly necessary session cookie if you access any authenticated area of the site; this cookie contains no personal information and expires when you close your browser.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children
This site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in a revised effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
